One of the most detrimental things to an MMORPG is a bad launch. This can sink a title faster than anything and Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) has certainly had its share of problems out of the gate. Earlier today, Andriasang.com translated a report from Japanese newspaper Mainichi in which Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada stated that the PC version of the game had shipped 630,000 units, 190,000 to Japan, 210,000 to North America and 230,000 to Europe despite the issues plaguing the game since its launch.
Wada admits that the game has had its problems and said, "We're quickly working on reforms. We'd like to put our full power into regaining trust." Square Enix extended its free play period for FFXIV by adding an extra 30 days for customers due to the state of the game following its September launch.
